For years we’ve been told that routinely changing the engine oil and filter was as necessary as fueling the vehicle. A lot has changed over the years, but the significance of this service has not. What has changed, is the increased importance of using the correct engine oil and filter and having a qualified technician inspecting the vehicle for any concerns while performing this service.
It’s not hard to find a place to perform this service. In fact, there’s usually so many options it can be difficult to decide where to go. Here is a tip that might help when making this decision.
There’s an old adage that often, still holds true. “If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is”.
If you found an automotive service provider that’s offering an oil and filter service for about what you would pay for the materials (Oil and filter), you really should ask yourself how and why. Is it possible to offer a quality service with a trained and competent staff, using the correct parts at such a low cost? The odds are not in your favor.

A loss leader is a product or service that is offered at a price that is not profitable, but it is sold to attract new customers and or to sell additional products and services to those customers. A 25-year veteran of the automotive repair industry, he has seen it all and worked on most of it. Brin is an ASE Certified Master Automobile Technician and is also certified as an Advanced Level Specialist.
